The days when technology was a luxury have passed.  Today it is essential to use technology as productively as possible.  Technology is complex and expensive.  In order to use it to your best business advantage, it is necessary to have knowledgeable technology support. 

Receiving the support of a knowledgeable IT person, however, is no longer sufficient for success.  The IT support person or team must also understand and be a part of the business of your organization, know how it runs, what the goals and objectives are for today and the future, and have in-depth understanding of the business. 

The IT person or team must know what the company does, how it does it, and where the organization is going.  If your business is really going to grow and integrate the value of technology as part of that growth, it is vital that your IT support; whether it is one person, a team, or a company that specializes in outsourced technology support and consulting; be very familiar with your business, especially any unique processes, capabilities, or goals that the organization may have. 

Schedule regular business meetings with the IT support company, person or team, not only to share technical problems, but also to sit in on staff meetings and even visit clients to obtain a first-hand insight into the workings of the organization.  The more they know about your business, the better they can help you use technology to achieve the goals for your organization.
